15/03/2020 - Essex TOWC Open Competition Results

On a cold fresh day 8 teams made the scales at the hastily reorganised venue hosted by Essex TOWC. They were Southminster YFC, Wix YFC, Essex TOWC, Oxney Vines Cross A & B and a team of Bedfordshire young farmers for the men. The women's teams were Oxney Vines Cross Ladies and Southminster YFC Ladies. The ground was soft to heavy in places but that didn't deter the teams that had a great competition and a chance to blow away the winter cobwebs. Photo: Essex TOWC

First up was the men's Catchweight. Five teams entered and pulled on some wet greasy ground. The winners were Essex TOWC with maximum 12 points with Oxney B coming in as runners up with 9 points. During the breaks in this competition the ladies 560kg was run with Oxney V.C Ladies and Southminster taking part. Due to the low numbers the teams agreed to go around three times to get some reasonable pulling done with Oxney Ladies coming out on top. Photo: Oxney Ladies

The last men's weight was the 640kg. Six teams this time in the group with Essex YFC coming out on top with maximum 15 points and runners up Oxney B.

The last weight of the day and probably the most competitive was the mixed 4x4 600kg. Four teams entered, Oxney A & B, Essex TOWC and Southminster YFC. Oxney B won the competition with 7 points, Essex TOWC were runners up with 6 points, Oxney A were third with 4 points and Southminster did very well.

Thanks go to Essex TOWC for their effort in putting on the competition in such a short space of time and to the teams for respecting the current government advice at the time in respect of the Corona Virus outbreak.

The officials were David Kitchener, Andy Lofthouse and Gavin Corden
