Area 7 Championships Results - 27 June 2021
It was the last completion before the nationals on Sunday 27th June. This time it was the TOW Association’s Area 7 Championships held at Sandhurst Memorial Park. The weather was overcast for most of the day before the rain set in but several teams still made the journey. Felton, Sandhurst men and ladies, Bedfordshire men and ladies, Essex with a few ladies, Cupids Hill, Army men and ladies and Melton Mowbray ladies. Everyone helped one another out, making sure as many teams took part in as many weights as possible.
First up the catch weight and Felton took the top position with a gold, leaving the other teams on level points. Bedfordshire, Essex and Sandhurst were on two points each and the only way to sort this in quick time was names out of a hat giving Bedfordshire the silver.
Cupid’s Hill were unstoppable as they won every point on offer and the gold in the 600kg with Essex taking the silver with the help of their ladies.
All three ladies weights 560kg, 540kg and 520kg finished up with identical results. There was some good pulling from Sandhurst and Bedfordshire, but it wasn’t enough to slow up Melton Mowbray taking home three golds and The Army three silvers.
The 680kg went Bedfordshire’s way as they steamed on through to first place and Felton taking silver.
The longest weight of the day was the 640kg, with 6 teams fighting it out. Cupid’s Hill, Sandhurst and Essex all won and lost ends finishing the table jointly with 12 points each, setting up a three way pull off. Cupid’s hill went on to beat Sandhurst this time, and despite a strong looking Essex, Cupids Hill won the gold and Essex winning silver.
Last weight of the day was the 4+4 and Bedfordshire with their extensively large squad fielded Beds A, Beds B and a Beds C team, going up against The Army and Sandhurst. Sandhurst and Army took one point each to push Army in to 3rd, Sandhurst took silver losing to Bedfordshire A who took yet another gold home for the day.
A huge thank you to all the organisers for putting on a great competition and all the teams that have supported the TOWA in what has been a short and tough 2021 season so far. Now to the nationals, in Oxfordshire and we are looking forward to seeing you all there!
