Daventry Open Competition Results - 15 May 2022

The annual Great Ormond Street Charity event took place at Daventry Football Club on Sunday 15 May. The teams that competed were as follows:

Men – Lincoln, Bedfordshire, Essex, Two Dales, Felton Eccles, Bosley, Sandhurst, Oxney Vines Cross, Holland with Bedford Ladies also competing in the mens 580kg and 600kg competitions.

Ladies – Bedfordshire, Essex, Melton Mowbray, Bedford Ladies, Upton upon Severn

Mixed – Lincoln, Bedford, Essex, Bosley, Bedfordshire

The format of the competition throughout the day was to run all weight categories in large groups, with the top two teams after the completion of the group stages competing again in a final. The ground was firm to start with, but once the top was knocked off the ground, it opened up nicely and there was some good competition throughout the day.

In the mens weights, it was once again Lincoln who were the successful team on the day reaching all of the finals on offer, but they were pushed a bit harder this week, with some close pulling in the 640kg, 600kg and 580kg competitions with Felton finishing as the runners up in the 640kg, Sandhurst finishing as runners up in the 600kg and Bosley finishing as runners up in the 580kg. Felton also finished as runners up in the 680kg and catchweight competitions. On a positive note, it was great to see Two Dales back out on the circuit after a 3 year absence, and we look forward to seeing them at more events in the near future.

In the ladies weight classes, there was more close competition with Bedford Ladies winning the 560kg and 520kg, followed by much excitement in the 540kg with Melton Mowbray overcoming Bedford in the final by 2 ends to 0 in a great final.

The mixed weights rounded off a good day of competition With Lincoln winning another gold medal ahead of Bedford with Bosley finishing in third place.

The officials on the day were Wendy Dyer, Mark Williams, Caroline Abri, Mike Callaghan, Mick Grimston, Peter Craft, Gavin Corden, Dave Kitchener, Vic Ludkin.
