East of England Championships Results 10 April 2022
On Sunday 10 April, the 2022 East of England Tug of War Championships took place at Kempston Hammer Sports Club in Kempston, Bedford, the venue for the 2022 National Outdoor Tug of War Championships, which take place on Saturday 18 June. The teams in attendance were as follows:

Men – Felton (A and B), Essex, Lincoln (A and B), Bosley, Sandhurst, Oxney Vines Cross, Bedfordshire, with Bedford Ladies also taking part in the mens 600kg competition as allowed by our rules.
Ladies – Bedford, Melton Mowbray, Sandhurst, Bedfordshire, Essex
Both the weather and ground conditions were dry meaning that there weren’t many “big holes” for teams to get in behind, and as such, there weren’t too many long ends throughout the day.

The weight classes that took place were the mens 600kg, 640kg, 680kg, and catchweight, with the 600kg and 640kg competitions being split into two groups, and the 680kg and catchweight competitions being pulled as straight group points competitions. All of the ladies competitions at 520kg, 540kg and 580kg were pulled as straight points competitions which saw Essex TOWC fielding a ladies team for the first time which was great to see.

Lincoln, fielding A and B teams in all weight classes, were the dominant team on the day in the mens weight classes where they ran out as winners in all 4 events. Felton Eccles had a good day just behind them finishing as runners up in the 640kg, 680kg and catchweight competitions with Oxney Vines Cross finishing in the remaining runners up spot in the mens 600kg competition, with the ground very much suiting Lincoln’s style of pulling and the number of tall men that they have in their team at the moment.

Bedford Ladies continued their fine form in the ladies weight classes by winning all three of the weight classes on other. There were some good battles amongst the other ladies teams throughout the day, with some good 1-1 ends between the teams, but it was Melton Ladies who finished as the runners up in all three of the weights that were held on the day to round off a solid day for them.
Well done to all of the teams who took part this week.
