2023 Far Western Area Training League Results
On Sunday 2 April, the fourth and final round of the FWA training league took place at in Newton Abbot, Devon
The event started with the 600kg men’s competition, with 9 teams weighing in and pulled in 2 groups. Group A had 5 teams was won by Anstey with the runner up being Honiton. Group B had 4 teams and was won by St Enoder A with the runner up being Meshaw. In the semi-finals St Enoder A defeated Honiton, and Anstey beat Meshaw. In the final St Enoder beat Anstey by 2 ends to 0.

Next up the ladies 580kg with 4 teams weighed in and pulled as a straight group. The winners were St Enoder A on 9 points, runners up Anstey on 6 points, third were St Enoder B with 3 points and then Haldon finishing in fourth place.

The third weight of the day was the mens 680 with 4 teams weighed in and again pulled as a straight group. The winners were St Enoder on 7 points, the runner up were Sandhurst on 6 points then Anstey on 4 points, followed by Honiton in fourth place.

Next up was the men’s 640kg, with 7 teams weighed in and pulled as a straight group. The winners were St Enoder on 18 points then Sandhurst A on 15 points, Anstey on 10 points followed by Honiton on 7 points then Meshaw on 7 points but split on the countback then Haldon on 4 points, followed by Sandhurst B. These results meant that Both Sandhurst and Anstey both had the same amount of league points after 4 events so a pull off had to be had to determine the overall runner up in this weight. This was match was won by Sandhurst.

The ladies 600kg saw 5 teams weigh in and pulled as a straight group. St Enoder A were the winners on 12 points with the runner up Anstey on 9 points. These teams were followed by Haldon on 6 points then St Enoder B on 1 point and finally Whimple on 1 point these places were decided once again on countback.

The event concluded with the mixed competition and 8 teams entered. Split into 2 groups after some really competitive pulling in both groups St Enoder B and Sandhurst came out of group A. In Group B St Enoder A progressed alongside Haldon. The semi-finals were St Enoder A vs Sandhurst and St Enoder B vs Haldon. The final was an all Cornish affair with St Enoder A beating St Enoder B.
