Melton Mowbray Ladies TOWC Open Competition Results 2024
Men – Melton Mowbray, Lincoln (A and B), Ashover, Spilsby, East Anglia, Bosley (A and B), York, Felton Eccles, Oxney Vines Cross, Sandhurst, Kilroe, Diesel Power, Army, Bedfordshire, Holland. Bedford Ladies and Melton Mowbray Ladies also took part in the 600kg competition.

It was another busy day of tug of war at Melton Mowbray’s annual tug of war event, hosted in dry but cool weather conditions with a good number of teams in attendance competing over 8 weight classes. All of the ladies/junior weight classes, the mens 640kg and 680kg and the mixed 580kg classes were split into two groups with the top two teams going through to the final, the catchweight was run as a straight group and the 600kg was split into 4 groups with 17 teams entering that competition.

The catchweight competition saw Lincoln finish in first place ahead of Felton Eccles, and the ladies/junior 560kg saw Kilroe and Bedford Ladies top their respective groups to reach the final. The final saw Bedford win the gold medal by 2 ends to 0.

The mens 600kg was split into 4 groups and there was some good competition throughout. The top team in each group progressed to the semi finals, who were Oxney Vines Cross, Lincoln A, Lincoln B and Felton Eccles. Lincoln A defeated Oxney Vines Cross and Lincoln B defeated Felton Eccles to progress to the final. The final saw Lincoln B beat their A team by 2 ends to 0 to take the gold medal.

The Ladies/Junior 520 was up next, again split into two groups and again Kilroe and Bedford met in the final. This Was a very exciting final which went to three ends, Bedford taking the first end and Kilroe the second end. After a close third end where Kilroe came close to taking Bedford over the line, it was Bedford who took the end and the gold medal.

The 680kg competition was split into two groups with Lincoln and Felton Eccles each winning their respective groups to progress to the final. Lincoln went on to win the final by 2 ends to 0.

The ladies/junior 540kg competition followed, and again there was some very close pulling. Kilroe were the winners of group 1, and there was some close matches in the second group with a number of teams taking ends off each other. In the end it was Sandhurst who progressed to the final to meet Kilroe. Kilroe went on to win the final by 2 ends to 0.

The mens 640kg competition was split into two groups again, and like the 680kg competition, it was Felton Eccles and Lincoln who progressed to the final, with Lincoln taking the gold medal by 2 ends to 0.

The day finished with the mixed 580kg competition, and again this weight class was split into two groups. Lincoln were the winners of group 1 ahead of Bosley A, Army and York, and Bedford were the winners of group 2 ahead of Melton Mowbray, East Anglia, Bosley B and Diesel Power. In the final, Lincoln went on to take their fifth gold medal of the day.
