2019 AAA Indoor Tug of War Championships Results
The 2019 AAA indoor championships once again took place at the Harry Mitchell Centre and it was good to see an increase in participation this weekend, with Sheen, Uppertown, Kilroe, Ansty, Raunds, Bosley and Penhow taking part. Photo: Uppertown - AAA indoor Catchweight Champions 2019
The event started with the AAA Championship weights at 640kg and catchweight. The catchweight competition started first, pulled as a straight group with the top two teams competing again in the final. Uppertown finished as group winners without dropping an end. Bosley and Sheen finished in joint second, and after the TWIF criteria was applied, Bosley progressed to the final. In a good match in the final, Uppertown took a deserved gold medal by 2 ends to 0. The 640kg was up next and Kilroe and Bosley progressed to the final. Kilroe almost took a very close first end, with Bosley managing to hang on to take the win. On the second end, Kilroe didn’t get the same momentum as they did on the first end and Bosley took the end and the gold medal, which was Bosley’s first indoor AAA gold medal since the first AAA indoor championship in 1978. The open weights then followed with the 600kg which was pulled in a straight group of 7 teams with the top two teams competing again in the final. Kilroe and Bosley progressed through the group without losing any ends until they both met in the last round with Bosley winning by 2 ends to 0. In the final, Kilroe made a substitution and competed well in the final, with Bosley having to work hard to take both ends to win the final. Photo: Ansty
The 680kg competition then followed with some more good competition in the group stages. Kilroe performed the strongest in the group to win the competition, followed by Uppertown who finished as the runners up. Photo: Sheen
The final weight of the day was the open 640kg competition. With time running short, the event was pulled as a straight points competition with no final. There was again some close pulling in this weight, with Kilroe, Uppertown and Ansty finishing joint top of the group on equal points. When the TWIF criteria was applied, Kilroe were declared the winners, followed by Uppertown and then Ansty. We look forward to more good indoor tug of war at the next event! Photo: Raunds
The officials on the day were Peter Craft, Roger Beardsmore, Dave Kitchener, Mick Grimston, and Wendy Dyer
